Four Seasons Hotel Prague marks twenty spectacular years of luxurious hospitality. Over the past two decades, the riverside Hotel has established itself as a place of truly breath-taking views and impeccable service attracting discerning guests who wish to experience the beauty of Prague through all senses.

Located in the heart of the Golden City at the very bank of the Vltava River with unparalleled views of the Prague Castle and Charles Bridge, the Hotel’s special location and dedicated team have blended into the right chemistry, which has created many memorable, heartwarming moments for both guests and the community as well as earned more than 50 international awards, including the first Michelin star in Central Europe and the only Five Star Hotel Rating by Forbes in the Czech Republic.

“Twenty years is a remarkable milestone, one that could not have been achieved without our wonderful people. I am immensely proud of each and every team member, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning, for bringing in passion and putting us on the forefront of luxury hospitality in Prague,” says General Manager Martin Dell.

Four Seasons Hotel Prague opened in February 2001 as the first Four Seasons in Central and Eastern Europe as well as the first five-star luxury hotel on the local market.

More Than 50 Awards and the First Michelin Star for Prague and Central Europe

Over the course of the last twenty years, Four Seasons Hotel Prague has earned more than 50 acclaimed international awards. “To highlight some, the Hotel was recognized in the Forbes Travel Guide, Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards, Travel + Leisure, Business Insider and Business Traveller Awards,” says Martin Dell.

One of the most notable accolades arrived in 2009, as the Executive Chef of the time, Andrea Accordi, recalls. “I moved to Prague with a dream of achieving my second Michelin star and the goal to bring the first star to the city. It was the first time for me to run such an important and beautiful hotel, I was so excited and at the same time thinking how I would manage such property. On the day of the Michelin star release, I think I went to the office of Rene Beauchamp, who was the General Manager at that time, at least six times to see if there were any updates. Finally, the call came in, Allegro got the first Michelin star in Prague and Eastern Europe! This was one of the greatest moments for me and the team and we went straight into the kitchen to celebrate with a glass of champagne. What a moment and what a party between emotions and tears,” says Andrea Accordi.

Eitan’s guesthouse is  situated on Terez grand boulevard in the centre of Budapest, with many iconic attractions. Budapest is home to the History Museum, Hungarian National Gallery, Castle hill, Buda Castle and of course the stunning panoramic views along the Danube river.

This kind of guesthouse was unknown in Hungary when it was opened back in 1992. It’s central location and cosy rooms on the 5th floor are a perfect fit in a world-renowned European city with beautiful architecture and historical sites.

Eitan and his multilingual staff are always available to give “inside information” about where to eat, drink, shop or how to reach the tourist attractions or make a reservation.

11 rooms, renovated in 2017, are available for 30 guests and each room are facing the iconic main street or beautiful inner court. The cosy rooms with modern furniture and floor mats on the ground give a homelike feeling to your short or longer stay. A private well equipped bathroom is standard.

Eitan’s guesthouse is since many year’s very well known to tourists and business travellers visiting Budapest. The various room types (double, twin, triple or quad and family rooms) are a temporary home to many returning guests.

The wifi inside the building is very good and stable, together with the cable tv, refrigerator and safe box in every room this makes this guesthouse a very good place to stay when visiting Budapest.

A grocery store, restaurants, ATM machine, pubs and a Starbucks is not even 50 meters from your doorstep.

The guesthouse is perfectly reachable with public transport (tram stops 50 meters from the accommodation, Nyugati station only 200m) and only 30 minutes away from the national airport. If you are coming by car you can use one of the (paid) parking nearby.

Tina (26) was born and raised in Romania’s capital Bucharest. Thanks to her passion for history, culture and international friendship she became a tour guide for Walkabout Free Tours in Bucharest. An NGO which aim is to encourage travellers to discover the stories, the spirit and the best sites of Romania in an interactive way,  so that in the end, visitors will be able to see in these places an intriguing and friendly destination to explore.

They organize free daily walking tours in Bucharest and Brasov, which every traveller is welcomed to join.

We spoke with Tina guiding tourists in the lovely city of Bucharest !

Tina, did you study something related to tourism ?
My prior studies as a faculty was not related to tourism but I always was involved in organizing different international projects, so I was close to people from all around the world, which I think its very beautiful. Then I got my practice license as a guide and since then more and more in love with what I am doing.

When did you start guiding people in Bucharest?
I started 2,5 years ago after working part time at a hostel in Bucharest and welcoming people, telling them about the city.. So I suddendly realized that I could do more.

You are passionated about your city and it’s history ?
I was always passionate about the history of this city and loved walking around discovering different routes and all the hidden stories behind the facades of the buildings. I got to be part of a wonderful team of guides in Walkabout free walking tours which is an NGO, so besides the tours we also get involve in different social projects.

What is important to you as being a guide ?
Ah, it is wonderful to be part of someone’s memory, their holiday, the best part of their year, when people want to have fun and have amazing experiences. So I feel very grateful for being part in that. I love showing the city from my local perspective and unveiling personal stories, seeing different spots not only the touristic ones, so that people can feel the real and authentic Bucharest.

Which are your favorite places in Bucharest ?
There are many favorite places!! But ok I can share with you one of my secrets.

Tell it now !
There is a street in Bucharest dominated by very beautiful houses, on one side there is a white massive one and on the other side an old ecletic very damaged building, called Macca. The contrast in between the two is stunning and I love just gazing at them whenever I walk by.

Where should our readers taste typical Romanian food ?
For romanian food usually you find many places in the Old Town and since our traditional food takes very long to make we also go to these restaurants if we dont cook it at home.
One of my favorite places is Lacrimi si sfinti, the food there, especially „Sarmale” tastes exaclty like the one made by my mother, so its perfect! But there is also the local market if you want to try our Mici, the traditional barbecue or the place called Ciorbarie for the sour soups, which is just like a bar but not with drinks, but soups!
And then my all time favorite as recipe is Bulz, but it is more often found in Transylvania, outside Bucharest, because it has really good traditional cheese made in the mountains!

I suppose Bucharest changed a lot since your childhood ?
Yes it changed a lot! So Iwas born in 1993 which is not very long after the Revolution from 1989. Things changed very slowly after communism so as I child I had of course everything I needed but I was always really excited when someone would bring clothes or toys from other countries and they were nothing like the ones here…

Life was totally different ?
There were very few restaurants, very few shops all very outdated. Slowly the city exploded and shopping hysteria started! If you only compare the old town which is now every summer packed with travelers all around the world with 10 years ago when it was all muddy and dirty with falling buildings, you can feel a very big difference! People started to love their city again, restore the buildings, travel more and expanding their horizons, being more and more open minded and responsible with their actions upon the city. There are still many things to be solved, but I am a very optimistic person!

Any funny stories about being a tour guide ?
Oh many! But probably the funniest tour was a Saturday evening last summer with lots of people at the tour including someone with a costume of Donald Trump and a group with men dressed up as babies! It was a great tour for sure!! Or someone who fainted when I talked about Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula..wasnt funny but memorable..or crazy people of the street joining the tour dancing or telling their own stories…so so many good memories, I definitely have the best job in the world!

Thanks Tina, our readers can read all about the Walkabout Free Tours in Bucharest here

We had the chance to enjoy an offer from Suite Home offering serviced rental apartments in the center of Bucharest. Situated in central locations, all their Bucharest apartments are within walking distance from parks, markets, restaurants, shops, banks, restaurants, office areas and pubs.

Suite Home offers accommodations in all areas of Bucharest, each of them with maximal comfort, privacy and extra services if required.

The capital remains the main destination in Romania for foreign tourists coming to the country. At the same time, Bucharest is the only large city in the country where there are more foreign tourists than local ones.

No matter if you are in Bucharest for business or for a holiday stay, Suite Home has the right proposal according to your specific needs. Whether it is a Bucharest studio for rent, or a one, two or three bedroom apartment, they can offer it.

Families will enjoy the self contained apartments where adults and children can have their own room and space. Additional services include day-care, city trips and much more.

Business people are enjoying the working space and free wifi. If they like to have cooking services, drop off from work, laundry services and dry cleaning services…Suite Home offers is all..

We had a smooth communication with the people from Suite Home to make the reservation and they helped us with all necessary details about the apartments .

All staff is speaking English and when arriving at the apartment you’ll be helped by a staff member explaining you all about the apartment, and checking you in very fast.

We noticed from earlier guests of Suite Home that they were very satisfied with the service level, accuracy and general quality of the apartments and all offered services.

When looking for accommodation in Budapest we were immediately interested in the offer of Cherry Apartments located in The Palace Quarter. This area is a very popular place in Budapest but we were surprised about the  quietness of the location where we found the apartments.

The lady at the reception was very helpful and explained us everything about the apartments and the services which were available.  The building is completely renovated and all apartments are brand new and have a very nice modern design with new and qualitiful materials.

No matter if you are visiting Budapest as a tourist or for business matters this location is awesome and perfect. The Dohany Street Synagogue is only 400 meter away from the apartments and a visit to the Hungarian National Museum is only 700 meter away. Also the Great Market Hall and State Opera House are very near.

The  Liszt Ferenc  International Airport is 20 km away and Cherry Apartments provide airport shuttle if requested for a reasonable price. You can also take a bus near the  apartment  which is going to  the airport.

Each apartment has a 42’’ smart tv, a fan-cool heating and cooling system and free (very fast !) wifi. All apartments are having a fully equipped separate spacious  bathroom, toilet and a fully equipped  kitchen. And a fully equipped bathroom means really fully equipped, there is a comfortable lavatory sink available and a big shower.

Since 7 years DBH boutique hotel in Bucarest offers high quality accommodation and services to Romanian and foreign tourists. You feel like home and the sense of passion for accommodating guests is amazing..

We had a nice chat with the management..

Can you tell us something about the start of your boutique hotel?

With an experience in HoReCa of more than 14 years, DBH started as a restaurant, in 2009 and began as a passion for the cuisine which has developed later in 2011, when the hotel was opened with the desire to provide a complete travel experience.

You speak any other languages than Romanian and English?

Yes, beside Romanian and English, our staff speaks also Spanish and French.

What type of guests do you attract ?

Most of our guests are travelling for business, although in certain periods of the year, we receive also significant bookings for leisure purposes, due to the fact that the hotel is at the same time located close to the city center and to the business area.

How many rooms do you offer ?

The hotel has a total number of 17 rooms and 3 floors, 15 of them have double bed and the others have 2 separate beds.

Name us 3 places in the city you think your guests should absolutely see ?

The most important would be The Palace of the Parliament, which is the world’s second-largest administrative building (after the Pentagon) and former dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu’s most infamous creation. Started in 1984 and still unfinished, the 330,000-sq-metre building has more than 3000 rooms and a height of 84 metres.

The second place would be The Village Museum, which is an open-air ethnographic museum located in the King Michael I Park, showcasing traditional Romanian village life. The museum extends to over 100,000 m², and contains 272 authentic peasant farms and houses from all over Romania.

The third place the guest should visit is the Bucharest Old Town, which is at the same time a mix of history, local culture and life style, a trendy entertainment district and favorite hangout for the locals.

What is unique about your location? Why would people choose to stay in your neighborhood?

What makes the location unique is that the hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood, at the intersection between the business area and the touristic area and it is easy to reach by public transport.

Do you offer arrangements to your guests to visit the area ?

In order to visit the area, we have concluded two partnerships, with TravelMaker and Bucharest City Tour. TravelMaker organizes different types of guided paid tours in Bucharest and we can recommend and book directly for our guests the most suitable tour, based on their preferences. At the same time, if the guests want to go by themselves to explore the city, we provide them the Bucharest City Tour map and all the information in order to reach the closest bus station (At Piața Victoriei), where they can take the Bucharest City Tour special bus.

Is there any typical meal guests should try when visiting Bucarest ?

Yes, they should try: sarmale, mamaliga and ciorba.

Are You planning new services or activities in the next months or years to come ?

Yes, we are planning to add an elevator for the comfort of our guests. Also, in the future we plan to design a new conference area, for our business guests.

What is your favourite part of your job / activity?

In my activity, the thing that I love the most is the interaction with our guests, because it allows me to know them better and at the same time to learn new things, to discover new cultures.

Is it possible to use public transport to come to your accommodation?

The hotel can be reached easily by public transport, we are located 200 m away from the closest subway station (Ștefan cel Mare) and 50m away from the closest bus station.

Any other particular information which is interesting about your hotel?

We have recently updated the breakfast area, we have a new design and the menu was also improved, in order to meet better the expectations of our guests. Also, in 2018, DBH Bucharest was declared by World Luxury Awards the Continent Winner for Luxury Boutique Hotel category.

What other region would you recommend our readers to visit in Romania, and why?

I would definitely recommend them to visit Transilvania area, it has so many beautiful places to visit. The most popular are: Transfagarasan Road, Sibiu, Sighișoara, Brașov, Bran (Dracula`s Castle), Viscri. In these places, they can discover the history and traditions of Romania and will get to see the nature`s beauty of Romania, which I am sure that will surprise them in a pleasant way.

Do you accept pets in your accommodation ?

Since our hotel is a small boutique hotel which has mainly business guests, we have decided that pets will not be accepted, in order to not disturb the sleep of the other guests.

Do you have a parking for guests coming by car ?

There are 2 options for parking:

  • free parking – in front of the hotel can be found a public street parking, this parking can not be booked, it is subject to availability;
  • paid parking – 50m away from the hotel, our guests can can park the car at our partner, Club Sports Dinamo, the cost is of 2 lei/hour (0.42€/hour), the parking can be paid only at our partner.

When visiting the “National Village Museum” in Bucharest you might encounter Daniela Cățoi, exposing her artwork at one of the stalls where local artists are selling their creations to the public. Daniela’s works are basically made in porcelain and are illustrating different details of nature or other small details from our life, materialized in jewellery or decorative items.

Daniela, when did you start your activity ?

It started from my father. He pushed me to study art. So, the time has passed and I really did this from my own decision. I studied graphics in high school, then I graduated National University of Art, in Bucharest. Some day, someone who I’m thankful, given me the opportunity to work with clay in a studio well equipped. So, easily, I switched from working with kids in natural clay to porcelain, that I’m still discovering every day.

How would you describe your artwork ?

In the beginning I started to work “for the sake of art”, without any pecuniary benefit. When the kids were in vacation, I was free to spend time however I wanted. While I was listening music, trying to give a shape which I was dreaming about previous weeks, was kind of a dreamlike. So, I think that my work is really born of passion.

You are doing this fulltime ?

For now, I’m not doing this as a full job. I’m working with kids also, who’s keeping me and my ideas alive. They are a genuine source of inspiration.

We found you at the ‘National Village Museum” ground in Bucharest, are you there every weekend

I’m participating at their expositions only when I am invited, at special events.

You have clients from all over the world ?

I have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world at the National Village Museum. Otherwise, most of my clients are living in Romania. They are friends of mine or simply people who discover my artwork on internet.

Which is the artwork you like the most?

I really like all of artworks made spontaneously, but also the opposite, very carefully and realistic ones. So, I’m enjoying seeing Expressionism Art, but at the same time the realistic details of nature.

Which places would you recommend to our readers if they want to see some modern art in Bucharest?

For modern art in Bucharest you may visit the National Art Museum, Art Safari, a temporary art museum, or galleries like Senso, Orizont, Simeza, AnnArt, and many others.

What is your favorite holiday destination?

For now, my favorite holiday destination is Greece. But, when I was started working with porcelain, I was setting my goal to visit Japan. I will work hard to fulfill my dream.

Where can our readers find your artwork on the internet?

For now, you can find my artwork on my Facebook page called “Daniela Cățoi Handmade Porcelain”. But in the near future, my website will also be available. I will announce it on my Facebook page, at the right time.

Since 24 March 2016, when Rijeka was named the European Capital Culture 2020, all the necessary measures have been taken to implement the project, from establishing the Rijeka 2020 Company to conducting the programme and securing funding for the City of Rijeka initiating major infrastructure interventions.

The European Capital of Culture project will put Rijeka and Croatia on the cultural map of Europe, since the ECoC is more than just a project undertaken by the City of Rijeka and the region, it is a national project aimed at showcasing Croatia to Europe. Moreover, Croatia will become the first country in the history of the European Union to simultaneously hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union and hold the title of the European Capital of Culture in 2020.

As part of the European Capital of Culture project, the infrastructure will be renewed and new cultural institutions will be opened, such as the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the City Library, Children’s House, the City Museum of Rijeka, the new RiHub cultural centre and the Galeb ship-museum.
The Rijeka European Capital of Culture project encompasses 29 cities, towns and municipalities from Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and 129 partners from the EU, with support provided by sister cities and former European Capitals of Culture, as well as cultural exchange with 48 countries across Europe and the globe.
More than 100 scholars, a plethora of sports clubs and organisations, as well as a majority of cultural and educational institutions from Primorje-Gorski Kotar County are expected to participatě, which adds up to almost 12,000 people. Approximately 1700 residents of Rijeka and the county are involved through civil initiatives and educational programmes.

With around 800 professionals and volunteers from Croatia and Europe aiding in the implementation of the project, over 3000 performers participating and the arrival of an estimated million visitors, the number of guests in Rijeka and Kvarner in 2020 will amount to 4 million.
The planned project budget is €30 million, with the Republic of Croatia and the City of Rijeka providing €10 million each, while the rest will be funded by other sources, including the first Croatian philanthropic organisation PartneRi, which brings together around 50 businessmen.

The Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture project will comprise approximately 1000 individual programmes from the opening of the event on 1 February 2020 to late February 2021, ranging from pop-culture to high-brow culture, from community programmes to alternative art and from traditional to contemporary artwork.
During the implementation of the project, almost 100 educational programmes in the fields of creative industries, cultural management and entrepreneurship will provide education for 2500 participants, which will inevitably produce a large staff pool in the future.

As early as 2019, the pre-programme of the event will see Rijeka welcome an array of artists and host three new festivals (the children’s Slide festival, the Porto Etno Festival of World Music and Gastronomy and the Sailor Sweet & Salt Music Festival), which will expand their programmes in 2020.

A one-of-a-kind urban zipline, stretching from the medieval Trsat Castle to ExPort Delta at sea-level, is scheduled to open in 2019 as a special feature of the pre-programme.
Although the 2020 programme rollout is slated for September 2019, we can already announce some of the programmes.

The Lungomare Site-Specific Art consists of a series of 10 contemporary art installations at ten different locations in Kvarner Bay. The programme was devised by world-renowned artists.
The multi-confessional Ekumena pavilion designed by the notable architect Nikola Bašić will become a new oasis of peace amid the urban Rijeka environment and a place where believers of all religions can meditate and/or pray.

The highlights of the content-rich exhibition programme include “The Nineties: Scars“, an exhibition of modern art in Eastern Europe as a process of incomplete transition.
Art aficionados are bound to be interested in the exhibition Klimt Unknown: Love, Death, Ecstasy, which will display seldom seen artwork by the young Klimt.
The Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc will also offer an eventful programme.

Richard Wagner’s opera Tristan and Isolde, directed by the famed director Ann Bogart, will be performed at the Rijeka theatre for the first time in its history.
The world-famous choreographer Andonis Foniadakis is preparing the premiere of the ballet Burning Water, while one of the most prominent European theatre troupes, Needcompany, will introduce themselves with the play All the Good.

In any case, there are plenty of valid reasons for culture vultures to visit Rijeka in 2020.
