Situated a 5-minute walk from both Aalborg Train Station and Kildeparken, this central hotel is 500 m from Algade shopping street. It offers free WiFi and a furnished courtyard. Aalborg Zoo is a 5-minute drive away.

UMANI and Le Sommelier closing

Copenhagen Concepts, who are behind the restaurants MASH, UMAMI and Le Sommelier, has chosen to focus on MASH and have therefor decided to close UMAMI and Le Sommelier per December 31st 2017. The leases will be taken over by SOVINO GRUPPEN, but what they will do with the spaces are unknown.

The reason for closing the two restaurant concepts is that Copenhagen Concepts wants to focus on streamlining their business and in the future focus on MASH in Denmark and abroad, where several restaurants have opened in recent years.

– We have been very happy running UMAMI and Le Sommelier, which have offered our guests unique experiences over the years. From the Japanese-French fusion kitchen in exclusive surroundings at UMAMI to the classic French kitchen at Le Sommelier. With the highest standards we have run UMAMI for 12 years and Le Sommelier for 20 years, and we’re very proud of what we’ve done and the experiences we’ve offered thousands of guests from across the globe, says Mikkel Glahn, Partner and Marketing Manager in Copenhagen Concepts.

Kill Your Darlings
While the competition in the restaurant business in Copenhagen has increased, it has been hard for the two restaurants to maintain the high number of guests needed to give guests the best restaurant experience.

– With Le Sommelier, Copenhagen got a restaurant 20 years ago, that for the first time took wine as seriously as the food. And with UMAMI we gave Copenhagen an international restaurant, which united gastronomi and design. Kill your darlings, as you say, and that is very much what is happening here, because we really care about UMAMI and Le Sommelier. It has been a hard decision to make, says Jesper Boelskifte, CEO and Partner in Copenhagen Concepts.

Closing down the two restaurants means that Copenhagen Concepts can now focus on maintaining and developing their flagship concept, MASH, where several new restaurants are in the cards.

– Now time has come to focus and use our strength on new adventures. With Café du Sommelier in Düsseldorf, Le Sommelier lives on in a new version, which is very approachable and ready for an international journey. And with the opening of MASH on Frederiksberg there are already new, big and exciting projects ahead of us, says Jesper Boelskifte.

SOVINO GRUPPEN, which will take over the locations, has yet to decide what they will be used for.

– We are very glad, that Torben Olsen and his team will take over the restaurants, but what they’re planning to do with them, we don’t know yet. So we can except the addresses to be vacant for a while, Mikkel Glahn finishes off saying.

Star Copenhagen Chef Rosio Sanchez to Debut First Sit-Down Restaurant

New Noma isn’t the only exciting Copenhagen opening on the radar: Former Noma pastry chef and Hija de Sanchez mastermind Rosio Sanchez is opening a new Mexican restaurant, Danish newspaper Politiken reports. At the eponymous Sanchez, the chef will apply her fine dining bona fides (Sanchez also worked on the pastry team at New York’s wd-50) and Chicago upbringing to Mexican classics.

Sanchez, who was one of the driving forces behind Noma Mexico’s summer success, left the famed Copenhagen restaurant in 2014 to open a taqueria. Hija De Sánchez, now an essential stop in Copenhagen, opened in 2015 and expanded to a second location a year later.

Unlike open-air taco stall Hija De Sánchez, Sanchez will have a full dining room. And at the restaurant, her first sit-down operation, Sanchez will serve more than tacos and paletas. In a press release, she compares the restaurant to a Mexican cantina or Parisian bistro and says she’ll use both Mexican and Nordic produce for a full a la carte menu of snacks and small bites, large plates, and desserts. Her bar will highlight Mexican beverages, including Mexican microbrews, mezcal and tequila cocktails, and aguas frescas.

Sanchez is set to officially open on November 30, and Sanchez’s old boss René Redzepi has already declared it a new hangout.

History

The building Løvenborg where you will find the Savoy Hotel, is designed by architect Anton Rosen, who is also known for Tuborg and Palace Hotel. The Art Nouveau building was completed in 1906 and delivered in 1985 under monument protection. Not only the impressive facade, by the way, the first of its kind in Denmark, one can recognize Anton Rosen decorative delight in detail. After a renovation in 1996 and a restoration in 2001, it became even more beautiful and more expressive forward in the road image. The building was once the very first in the whole of Denmark, which had a lift. Also on this day, more than 100 years later, the elevator is still fully functional and can be used by our guests.

Anton Rosen

Anton Rosen was born in 1859 in Horsens in Jutland. He was trained as a bricklayer, and came about the technical school in Copenhagen to Copenhagen Architecture School. He marked Copenhagen by many buildings, the most famous being Ørneapotheke in Vestergade, a water tower next to a former textile factory, and of course, Savoy Hotel in the building Løvenborg.

The rooms have been renovated in 2012 and have lots of natural daylight. They are all facing an inner court yard and are very quiet.
