The restaurant quickly\u00a0became popular with Budapest citizens, often the line of those waiting for a table\u00a0stretched as far as the Franciscan church. The famous restaurateur dynasty, the Spolarich\u00a0family bought the place in 1925 and transformed it into its present, atmospheric and\u00a0unique state with the help of celebrated artists of the day.<\/p>\n<p>The rebuilding of the rooms\u00a0began in 1926 according to the plans of K\u00e1roly Bodon, with the inner salons decorated\u00a0in romantic style, complete with paintings depicting battle scenes and events of the\u00a0heroic Hungarian history. The walls are handpainted, with gilded decoration and arches\u00a0reminiscent of gothic times. All of the works of art are masterpieces by Hungarian\u00a0artists: including paintings by Lajos P\u00e1ndy and K\u00e1roly Reischl, as well as sculptures by\u00a0Henrik Koll\u00e1tor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In 1934 L\u00e1szl\u00f3 K\u00e1rolyi leased the restaurant, gathered a wide range of recipes and\u00a0changed its name to K\u00e1rp\u00e1tia.<br \/>\nK\u00e1rp\u00e1tia became state property in 1949 and part of HungarHotels chain in 1957. By\u00a0proposal of the Museum of Gastronomy and the Museum of Applied Arts the Minister\u00a0of culture declared the interior decoration and furniture a National Heritage. The\u00a0\u00a0restaurant was renovated in 1979.
